Summary
The main goal of WP2 is to allow partners and stakeholders to access, share and process data and information easily and efficiently, having a sound basis and focusing on concrete MSP products.
High priority will be given to issues related to the cross-border origin of data, such as integration and interoperability, semantics and harmonization of information.

2.1 Data needs, data availability and data policy

MSP needs sound information and scientific knowledge to be able to produce concrete and effective results. The aim of Task 2.1 is to identify, in connection with WP1, data and information required in the various phases of the project.

2.2 Data collection and exchange

The activity will focus on collecting existing spatial data and data sources needed to sustain the MSP exercise. Sources will include:

  • The results of other projects, especially those relating to the project region and sub-regions, such as SHAPE, CoCoNet, Perseus (see Par. 1.6);
  • European Atlas of the Seas (European Commission, online), European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODNET);
  • Datasets deriving from the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive;
  • Regional or local datasets.

Tools and software to access and elaborate the data collected in Task 2.2 will be made available to the partners. In particular, stakeholders' involvement can be enhanced and made more productive using interactive geospatial tools to develop a common understanding of the current situation and potential future directions  and potential effects of measures. For this reason, a survey of tools and software already used by partners and by other European or international projects will be conducted as a first step to provide a range of solutions for the elaboration and analysis of data.
