What Future for Fisheries in the Adriatic

In the framework of the projects COM & CAP MARINA-MED (MED programme 2007-2013) and ADRIGOV (IPA programme 2007-2013)

The Conference aims at creating an informal platform bringing together the key stakeholders in charge of shaping, financing, and implementing fisheries and aquaculture policies across the Adriatic-Ionian basin. This informal platform represents a first step of a technical and political follow-up of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).

ADRIPLAN will be present with a presentation in Session 2 - Human Impacts on the Adriatic-Ionian Marine Environment Stakeholders' Consultation on Coastal and Maritime Pressures in the Adriatic- Ionian Basin.

About Us

ADRIPLAN aims to deliver a commonly-agreed approach to cross-border MSP in the Adriatic-Ionian region, considered as a whole and more specifically through two Focus Areas (Northern Adriatic Sea; Southern Adriatic / Northern Ionian Sea).

The ADRIPLAN project will provide detailed recommendations for the evaluation of cross-border MSP based on an integrated overall assessment and taking into account multiple demands and potentials.

The ADRIPLAN project is implemented by 17 Partners from 4 countries of the Adriatic - Ionian Macroregion, from which 8 are the Scientific Partners and 9 the Institutional Partners (inner circle). 17 Observers (outer circle) are also contributing to the project.

The proposed approach will be based on the best knowledge available, will be developed with the support of Institutional partners and observers and the involvement of all main stakeholders.

The main challenge for ADRΙPLAN in implementing MSP in the area will be to overcome barriers of full participation of all neighboring countries in the process and promote sound technically/scientifically based political decisions.

The scientific community of the project had been given the mandate to deliver a commonly - agreed approach for providing detailed proposals and recommendations for the implementation of cross border MSP in the focus areas.

ADRIPLAN promotes the harmonized implementation under an ecosystem based approach of the EU legislative framework on marine and maritime issues, including the ICZM protocol for the Mediterranean, and the new Directive proposal on ICZM – MSP, as well as the EUSAIR Action Plan
